RCD vs RCBO Boards — What's the Difference?

Older split-load consumer units use a single RCD to protect half the circuits in the board. If one circuit develops a fault, the RCD trips and takes out all circuits on that side — often including the fridge, freezer or boiler. A modern RCBO board gives each circuit its own individual combined overcurrent and residual current protection, so a fault on one circuit only trips that one circuit.
